This will just be a quick post, because I've got company coming over in just a few short minutes.
I see a lot of you have gone what I call "Comment Crazy"
Needless to say, I'm not going to reply to all of those at the moment. ;) But, I did READ all of them.
And I MUST clarify something that Peppywolf said.
Mormons ARE Christians!! I'm a Mormon, and I'm a Christian.
In fact, I actually wrote an essay about this very subject. I'll show it to you. The stuff in parentheses are sources that PROVE what I say. It had to be in MLA format.
Anways, I KNOW and LOVE Jesus Christ. I am, indeed, a Christian.
Are
Mormons Christians?
With
the election coming up in just over a week, many people harangue Mitt Romney about
his religious beliefs. People know that he is a Mormon, and that raises the
query: Is he a Christian? People often surmise that since he’s a Mormon, he
isn’t a Christian. That is false. The definition of the word “Christian” is, “A
person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ, or in the religion based on
the teachings of Jesus” (Guralnik 253). The Mormon Church is certainly a
religion that bases its teachings on those of Jesus Christ. Since Mitt Romney
is a Mormon, he is also a Christian. Mormons are, in fact, Christians.
The
term “Mormon” is actually a nick-name for “the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.” The full name of the church in and of itself suggests
Christianity. The homepage of the website mormon.org states the major belief of
the Church: “We believe first and foremost that Jesus Christ is the Savior of
the world and the Son of God” (mormon.org). Leaders of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints also preach about Jesus Christ, emphasizing the
importance of gaining a testimony of Him and His divine role as our Savior and
Redeemer (lds.org). From the time children in
the Church are eighteen months old, they are taught basic truths such as “Jesus
Christ and Heavenly Father Love Me” (Behold).
If Mormons were not Christian, would they teach their people, and even their
children, about Him? I don’t think so. Mark 3:25 says, “If a house be divided
against itself, that house cannot stand.”
The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of
Jesus Christ is another book of scripture used by members of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This book’s primary purpose is to bring
people to Christ. Nephi, a writer in the Book of Mormon (much like Matthew or
Mark are in the Bible), states his purpose for writing part of the Book of
Mormon: “For the fullness of mine intent is that I may persuade men to come unto
the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be saved” (The).
Jesus Christ is mentioned an average of once every 1.7 verses in the Book of
Mormon (lsdces.org).
I
am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know from my
own experience the veracity of the fact that Mormons are Christians. The things
I learn at church and through reading the Book of Mormon strengthen my faith in
Christ, and motivate me to do my best to serve Him. Every Sunday, my church
leaders talk about Jesus. I know that He is my Savior, and that without Him, I
am nothing.
To
think that Mormons are not Christians is an egregious misconception. If you
truly analyze the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
you will see that they are centered on Christ and His teachings. There are
manifold ways that this is promulgated. Some anti-Mormons with malevolent
intentions try to skew things that Mormons say to make it sound just the
opposite. But the fact remains, and shall remain forever and ever: the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian church.
